Lawmakers want to establish a sensible ethical framework to determine liability. We’ll see if that actually happens. A lot of very rich people stand to make a lot of money off of AI and robots, and if there’s one thing rich people hate, it’s risk. They’ve done a lot of work to make sure that they almost never suffer consequences for their bad decisions. Like, they write a lot of laws, and give a lot of jobs to former and future industry regulators.
That’s why they can play a terrifyingly complex and tenuous financial shell game and, when it collapses, we, the normal people, end up paying for it. That’s why, in spite of all of the financial chicanery and grifting they’re guilty of, only one of the motherfuckers ended up in prison for it.
So, who will be responsible for the harmful decisions made by AI and robots? No one with money, I can tell you that much.
