Today’s robot news

“General Motors Co. has connected about a quarter of its 30,000 factory robots to the internet, and the largest U.S. automaker already is reaping the benefits of less down time.” From: GM Hooking 30,000 Robots to Internet to Keep Factories Humming – Bloomberg

Connecting anything to the internet is a bad idea, but connecting robots is especially bad. Has anyone at GM heard anything about just how shitty the Internet of Things is? Probably they have, but I suspect their priorities are out of whack: “Look, first we get rid of all the workers, then we’ll deal with the severe, expensive problems that automation causes, all right? Putting people out on the street is the most important goal here, and we’ve got to focus on that.”
