I first heard the song, “Public Image” back around 1991. I was also learning to play guitar around the same time. I was gobsmacked; kind of little outraged, too. It was such a unique guitar sound I was like, “This came out in 1978? Why didn’t this change everything?!

Well, it kind of did. I was too young to know what post-punk was. Also, the band Public Image Ltd liked to “make it up as they went along,” which is great for experimental artistic freedom, but sort of boring to listen to as pop music.

But their first song is one of my favorites, and that guitar sound is also. Not broadly useful for anything but this one song maybe, but it’s good.
